The greatest challenge associated with this process is simply taking the time to think about why your business exists in the first place and what its values are. Among others, a few of Premier's Primary Objectives were to:
  1. Reduce Operational Costs
  2. Procure 100% of it's electricity from a renewable source by 2020
  3. Reduce the intensity of its greenhouse gas emissions bu 25% by 2020
  4. Host an annual environmentally focused event that engages the local community (and more broadly to educate our community on sustainability program efforts)
Over time, Premier diligently executed path laid out for them in the roadmap, and their success did not go unnoticed. They've recently earned the Governor's Environmental and Economic Leadership Award (GEELA) in 2016 and the Sacramento Area Sustainable Business Award in 2015. However, the first step and most essential step in their journey was identifying what goals were most important and then building a framework that could support their achievement.
